VOLUNTEER

Clearances

Thank you to our wonderful PJP volunteers for all you do each and every day to support our programs, activities, athletics, and field trips. Volunteers are a very important part of PJP and help make our school stand above the rest. We appreciate everything you do and keep you in our prayers.

This page explains what the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania law require when working with children in schools.

Before you begin

Required Clearances

Every PJP volunteer who may have any possible contact with or responsibility for children must complete the background checks and clearances below.

Volunteers who reside in Pennsylvania do not have a provisional period. There are no exceptions, and all clearances and training must be completed prior to working with children.

  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance

Living in PA

Safe Environment Training

Volunteers who have regular contact with children (at least one time per week) are required to complete parts one and two of the Safe Environment training within 90 days of beginning their volunteer work.

PART 1

Protecting God's Children

  • Offered regularly at sites throughout the Archdiocese. The training provides basic facts about child sexual abuse and adults' roles in prevention.

PART 2

Mandatory Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse

Available online through the Training Institute in English and Spanish. It gives an overview of Archdiocesan reporting procedures for suspected child abuse and Pennsylvania Child Welfare Laws, and takes approximately one hour to complete.

Coaches and staff

New Coaches and New Hires

All new coaches of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, paid and volunteer, must complete Safe Environment Training. Within 90 days of hire, attendance is expected in the classroom component (Protecting God's Children).

The online component (Mandated Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse) is required for those hired after December 2011. If you began service before December 2011 but did not attend the Mandated Reporter training, you are out of compliance and must complete the online training.
