Congratulations to PJP Seniors Thomas Rutkowski (St. Ann’s Parish, Phoenixville) and Liam Wenger (St. Joseph’s Parish, Spring City), who have both been named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists! The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) — a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year— and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements. Thomas and Liam are among two of the nation’s 16,000 out of 50,000 high scorers to be named semifinalists. Thomas, a member of St. Ann’s Parish, Phoenixville, attended Holy Family School. He has played on the PJP’s boys soccer and boys tennis teams, competed in the Academic Quiz Bowl, and served in the Respect Life Club. Liam, a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Spring City, also attended Holy Family School. He has competed in the Academic Quiz Bowl, participated in Student Council, served in the Community Service Corp, and played in the Ultimate Frisbee Club. Congratulations to not only Thomas and Liam, but to their parents and teachers! Thomas and Liam join PJP’s six former semifinalists who have gone on to be named finalists and twenty-four commended scholars in PJP’s history! We are so proud of you!
