Pope John Paul II High School Announces Mr. Sackda Viravong as the New Varsity Boys Soccer Coach

Mr. Viravong comes to PJP from Ursinus College, where he served as the assistant men’s soccer coach. As the assistant coach, he worked with the head coach in the training sessions and prepared the team for competition. His focus during the course of the season was on players’ physical fitness, tactical and technical development, and game day preparation.
 
Prior to Ursinus, Coach Viravong held varsity coaching positions at Geneseo Central High School (NY), Newton High School (IA), and Grinnell High School (IA) from 2008-2017. At the collegiate level, Coach Viravong was the assistant women’s soccer coach from 2003- 2005 and as the assistant men’s soccer coach from 2000-2004 at Grinnell College.
 
Coach Viravong also played intercollegiate soccer at the University at Buffalo from 1988-1990. Scholastically, he was a two-time first team City Catholic selection for Cardinal Mooney High School in Rochester, New York. In addition, he also had the opportunity to play on the Olympic Development Program (ODP) for the western New York region for U-14 through U-17. He graduated from the University at Buffalo in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science Interdisciplinary, and with a Master of Science in Urban Studies Planning in 1997.
 
We are excited that Coach Viravong is joining our PJP Athletic Department and Community. We cannot wait for the soccer season to start!
