Important Back-to-School Information

 
NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION - SCHOOL BEGINS FOR GRADE 9 AND UPPERCLASSMEN TRANSFERRING TO PJP ONLY:
Wednesday, September 6th - Students report to Auditorium at 7:45 a.m. 
Each school day runs from 7:50 a.m. - 2:29 p.m.  
 
FIRST DAY FOR GRADES 10, 11 & 12 ONLY:
Thursday, September 7th - Homeroom begins at 7:50 a.m.  The school day ends at 2:29 p.m.
 
ALL GRADES REPORT - 9, 10, 11 & 12:
Friday, September 8th - Homeroom begins at 7:50 a.m.  The school day ends at 2:29 p.m.
 
Required School Forms
All required school forms for the 2017-2018 school year will be provided to each student in a packet on the first day of school. These forms must be returned by no later than Monday, September 11th.

What to Bring to School
It is important that students bring their school lock (see details below), pencils, pens, notebooks and a fully charged Chromebook. Individual teachers will let students know if specific supplies are needed for their classrooms.
 
 
Bus Transportation
For the first day of school, it is important for students to know their bus number, school district and name listed on the side of the bus. Bus numbers from different school districts may be similar. This can cause confusion during dismissal on the first few days of school, especially for our new students. Knowing this information will allow them to find their bus quickly without missing it. If you child has a cell phone, we suggest they take a photo of the side of the bus the first morning the bus arrives.
 
 
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Parents who drop-off students in the morning or pick-up students in the afternoon should enter the parking lot using the main entrance. At the first intersection, turn right. Follow the road until you reach the stop sign. At the stop, turn left and drive to the front of the school building. Students may be dropped-off/picked-up at the right side of the curb in front of the school. Parents waiting for students at dismissal may line up next to the curb, but please leave enough room on your left to allow other drivers to pass.
 
Bus drivers will pull all the way into the bus loop during dismissal, so they do not block the entrance/exit at the top of the loop. This allows cars to enter and exit the parking lot safely. Once the buses begin to exit, they have no stop sign; therefore, the buses have the right of way. At this point, all drivers must wait until all the buses have left the loop before exiting. No one should try to merge into the line of buses. Once the buses have left the loop, drivers may once again exit there.

Parking Passes
Any students planning on driving to school must obtain a parking permit before the school year begins. Parking permits must be purchased every year at a cost of $50.00. At the time of purchase, students must present a completed parking permit form with a parent or guardian signature. Parking permit forms have been posted with the required forms on the school web page. Parking permits are available for purchase all year in the Student Services Office. Any student who gets their driver’s license later in the school year and wishes to park at school are expected to purchase a parking permit. Cars not registered with the Student Services Office are subject to a fine or towing.  
 
 
Lunch Accounts
Lunch will be available for purchase beginning the first day of school. Students may purchase their school lunch using cash or a computerized debit system that allows parents to pay in advance. You can find information about this system by clicking this LINK. Please be sure to follow the directions carefully when setting up your child’s account.
 
 
School Locks  
All students who are new to PJP will receive a school lock on the first day of the 2017-2018 school year; this lock is to be used by the students for all four years.  All locks placed on school lockers must be a PJP school lock.  Any student who does not have their school lock from last year must purchase a new one through the Services Office.  The cost of a new lock is $10. All school lock combinations are on file in the Student Services Office for those who do not remember their combination.
 
 
ID Cards
All students will receive a new ID card soon after yearbook portraits are taken. ID cards for freshmen and transfer students are also building access cards. All other students will receive an updated photo ID card. To obtain the new photo ID, students must present their original access card. Students who lost or damaged their access card must purchase a new card for $30.
 
 
FAQ's re: Chromebooks
Should I purchase a protective/padded sleeve for the Chromebooks? Yes, please purchase a protective/padded (13”) sleeve for the Chromebooks.
 
Who should I report issues with the Chromebook or iPad to? Report any issues with Chromebooks/iPads immediately to the technology department. Mr. Bill Moffett bmoffett@pjphs.org 
 
What should my freshman or junior do if he/she has not yet picked up the Chromebook? If you haven’t yet picked up your Chromebook, you may pick it up on Tuesday during the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
 
Students should check their PJP email accounts on a regular basis.
